Writing is one of the language skills that should be taught besides the other skills.
Writing is a communicative act, it is a way of sharing information, thoughts, experience,
or ideas between the students and other. In teaching writing, the teacher can use the
strategy to improve students’ writing skill. Concept sentence is a method of learning that
teaches students to make a sentence with some key words that have been provided in
order to capture the concepts contained in the sentence.
The statement of problem of this research is how concept sentence can improve
students’ writing skill at the eight grade of MTs Wali Songo Sukajadi in academic year
2017/2018. The purpose of this research is to measure whether concept sentence can
improve students’ writing skill at the eight grade of MTs Wali Songo Sukajadi in
academic year 2017/2018.
The subject of this classroom action research was eight grade students of MTs
Wali Songo in academic year 2017/2018, especially class VIII C which consistyed of 25
students. The research was started on January 27th, 2018 until On Fabruary 13rd, 2018.
This research was conducted in two cycle . The researcher used three research instrument.
There were observation check list, questionnaire, and test.
Based on the result of this research, the impelementation of concept sentence can
improve students’ writing skill at the eight grade students of MTs Wali Songo Sukajadi, it
was seen from the data of score test. In cycle 1, the test was known that only 36% who
got score above KKM and 64% who got score under KKM. It improved in cycle 2, 23
students or 82% got score greater than English KKM. The students were also more active
and they had higher motivation to learn. The result of questionnaire stated that there were
some improvements from first questionnaire and second questionnaire. The total of the
first questionnaire was 40,8% and the second questionnaire was 80%. So, the result of the

second cycle was higher than the first questionnaire. The students were more interesting,
enjoying, and getting easier to understand the material.
Finally, the researcher gives suggestion that English teachers can use concept
sentence as alternative method in teaching writing. The next researcher can develop this
method.
