THE INFLUENCE OF RAPQ STRATEGY TOWARD STUDENTS’ READING COMPREHENSION IN NARRATIVE TEXT AT TENTH GRADE OF SMAN 2 METRO IN ACADEMIC YEAR 2016/2017



The objective of this research is to find out whether using RAPQ
technique is one effective way to improve the students’ ability in reading
comprehension. The research was conducted at the tenth grade of SMAN 2
Metro, in the academic year of 2016/2017, which was taken randomly by
lottery. This research is quantitative research. The research design was one
group pretest posttest design. In collecting the data, the researcher
administered pretest, treatments, and posttest. In analyzing the data, the TTest was employed to reach the significant value.
The result of the students’ score before and after treatments implied
that RAPQ technique could improve the students’ reading comprehension
ability in narrative text. From the computation, the highest score of pretest
was 43 and the lowest score was 43, with the mean score 32,41. The highest
score of posttest was 48 and the lowest score was 27, with the mean score
37,68.
The researcher concludes that there is a significant improvement of
students’ reading comprehension ability after they were taught by using
RAPQ strategy. t-observed (2,424) is higher than t-table 2,085. (0,05%), 2,423
(0,025%). At the level of significant 0.005, Sig (2-tailed) value is 0.019 <
0.05. In other word, using RAPQ has positive effect toward the students’
ability in comprehending of the narrative text.
