IMPROVING STUDENTS’ WRITING ABILITY IN NARRATIVE TEXT THROUGH READ ASK PARAPHRASE (RAP) STRATEGY AT EIGHT GRADE OF MTs TRI BAKTI AL IKHLAS 2 ANAK TUHA IN ACADEMIC YEAR 2017/2018



In conducting this research, the researcher applied Classroom Action Research
(CAR). The subjects of this research were 25 students of the eighth A class of
MTs. Tri Bakti Al Ikhlas 2 Anak Tuha. The researcher was helped by the English
teacher as a collaborator. The data were collected throughclassroom observation,
interviews and tests. The types of the data were quantitative and qualitative data.
The quantitative data were obtained from tests and they were in the form of
students’ scores. The qualitative data were collected through classroom
observation and interviews. This research was conducted systematically in two
cycles following the four phases of action research namely: planning, acting,
observing and reflecting.
With regard to the application of the two cycles, the results of the research revea l
that the use of RAP strategy successfully improves the students’ writing ability in
narrative text. This strategy helps the students improve their enthusiasm and
attention in the process of teaching and learning English, especially writing
ability. Their vocabulary and understanding of new words also improve. In
relation to their comprehension of narrative texts, the students are able to identify
main ideas and supporting details of paragraphs correctly. Their interaction and
involvement in the writing class also improve. In addition, the students become
more active and enjoy the process of teaching and learning writing. in Cycle 1
students passed is 15 (60%). In cycle 2 students passes the KKM20 (80%). Was
improved 20% in cycle 2. By this number, the researcher concludes that the
minimum target of success, that is 70% of the students in a class, has been
achieved in cycle 2, and it was prove that RAP Strategy can positively improve
the students’ writing ability in narrative text at students in eight grade of MTs. Tri
Bakti Al Ikhlas 2 Anak Tuha in academic year of 2017/2018
