USING THINK ALOUD STRATEGY TO IMPROVE STUDENTS’ READING COMPREHENSION IN DESCRIPTIVE TEXT AT SEVENTH GRADE OF MTs TERPADU NURUL QODIRI LEMPUYANG BANDAR WAY PENGUBUAN LAMPUNG TENGAH ACADEMIC YEAR 2018/2019



Reading, as one of language skills, has a very important role. The students
should comprehend the reading for certain purpose. Therefore, the ability to read
the text in any form will bring great advantages tothe readers. All those purposes
need reading comprehension enough. Talking about comprehension in reading,
there are some techniques that can be used by the English teacher. Absolutely, the
teacher should choose the appropriate one to reach teaching learning goals. The
think-aloud process is a metacognitive technique or strategy in which a teacher
verbalizes thoughts aloud while reading a selection orally, thus modeling the
process of comprehension.
The aim of this research is to find out the achievement of students’ Reading
Reading Descriptive Text Using Think Aloud StrategyAt Seventh Grade of MTs
Terpadu Nurul Qodiri Lempuyang Bandar Way PengubuanLampung Tengah In
Academic Year 2018/2019.
The design of this research was Classroom Action Research (CAR). In
collecting the data the researcher used test, observation, questionnaire and
documentation. Then the data obtained was analyzed by comparing its progress in
each cycle using percentage measurement. This research was done in 2 cycles.
The subject of this research were the eighth grade of MTs Terpadu Nurul Qodiri
in academic year 2017/2018. It consists of 28 students.
Based on the result and discussion on the previous chapter, the researcher
drawn a conclusion that the application of TAS could increase the students’ ability
in reading descriptive text, it was proved by the higher score in the post-test. The
number of success students has already achieved 23 (82,14%) of them. It means,
85% students already passed the test, and only 5 (17,86%) of them were failed.
By this number, the researcher concluded that the minimum target of success, that
was 80% of the students in a class, has been achieved in cycle 2, and it proved that
the application of TAS could positively increase the students’ reading descriptive
text at students in VII grade of MTs Terpadu Nurul Qodiri Lempuyang Bandar
Way Pengubuan Lampung Tengah academic year 2017/2018.
